The Walton Club has been gracious to let us hold our monthly meetings in the clubhouse and we want to show our appreciation by again bringing a No Charge night of Da Blues, Saturday night January 17th. Dustin and Matt are in demand and we were lucky to get them together with Matt’s band, as they both have bands that keep them booked and busy. This event is not without cost to the Southeast Iowa Blues Society, and we will be grateful for any financial contributions that evening on your part. Part of our mission is to hire musicians, to pay them well, including regularly paying for their accommodations. We hope that you will come out for a great evening of Blues music, even if it is chilly outside as the Blues inside we guarantee will warm you up.
Southeast Iowa, you are in for a real treat at the Fairfield Iowa Elks Lodge, Saturday night April 12th. I just so happens that evening is PIZZA NIGHT at the Elks Lodge, so come early and order your own personal pizza freshly made, starting at 6pm.
Music for the evening, sponsored by the Southeast Iowa Blues Society will be the very talented Bob Dorr Blue 2+ blues jam band, getting the Lodge Jamin and Shakin starting at 7:30pm, for the amazing deal of $10 per person. MARK your CALENDAR for this event and spread the word!!

For its 26th year, the Iowa Blues Challenge (IABC) is returning to its traditional spring time frame. The 2019 Iowa Blues Challenge Finals will be held on Sunday, June 16 at the Des Moines Social Club. Finalists will compete for a prize package that includes cash, recording time, opportunities for paid gigs and entry into and travel expense stipend for the 2020 International Blues Challenge on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee in January.
PLEASE NOTE: Because of the limited number of acts registered for the blues challenge statewide, ALL previously scheduled preliminary rounds are cancelled and all acts will compete at the FINALS only.
Get Ready for the 5th Annual Blue Ribbon Blues Fest, presented by the Southeast Iowa Blues Society. This years Fest will feature great Blues bands from the US and Canada with the featured headliner, the John Nemeth Band.
John has received two Blues Music Awards for Soul Blues Male Artist in 2014 and Soul Blues Album in 2015. He has recorded eight solo albums since 2002, having also backed Junior Watson, Anson Funderburgh and Elvin Bishop. John’s talent is widely recognized and we can’t wait for him to take the stage.
Another special treat this year will be the Chris Antonik Band. Toronto-based Chris Antonik is a three-time Maple Blues Award-nominee (Canada’s national blues awards) and one of Canada’s most acclaimed blues artists. Blending innovative, thoughtful songwriting with stunning blues guitar work, some music critics have drawn comparisons to Eric Clapton. 
In support of hiring local musicians our opening band will be the hard driving Riverdogs Blues Band, featuring the soulful voice of Bonnie VanBuskirk and Randy Walker’s hard driving guitar playing. 
To keep the Blues flowing all night long, Iowa’s Blues Hall of Fame performer Tony Blew, will play between all of the main stage bands.
Tickets for this years event will be $20 for Southeast Iowa Blues Society members and $25 for non members. Mark Saturday August 4th on your calendar for a great time at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Fairfield Iowa. We will again have great BBQ, The Iowa Beer Bus and more available when the gates open at 4:30pm, see you there.
A big thank you to all of the Southeast Iowa Blues Society Members for making our first Member Appreciation event a success. The music of Tony Blew and Bluzillion made for a fantastic evening of music and dancing, and the Best Western had a great tasty short menu at nothing over $5.50 with plenty of refreshments available as usual.
Another thanks to Jeannie Belgarde for her contribution of a beautiful hand made quilt for the silent auction. When the bidding ended, Debra Findlay took home this great piece of Blues lover art.
Also thank you to John Paul Jones of H&J Entertainment & Efficient Electrical Energy Consultants, for his donation of 20 copies of a sample of his new CD. The lucky drawing recipients are no doubt enjoying this sample release.
There were also two drawing winners of a free one year Southeast Iowa Blues Society Membership, Glen Kesselring and Mike Augustine, and we hope they will continue to support our efforts. We also thank all of you who signed up as new Southeast Iowa Blues Society members at the event, the more the merrier.
What a great night of the Blues, and we look forward to more and more of this great music in our future.
